Carew/Cresswell and Daugleddau this morning

A rather gloomy 08:00 start at Carew Millpond (due to heavy cloud and some drizzle) was brightened up by the arrival of a 1st winter Iceland gull. It flew in to bathe, eventually being joined there by around 300 herring gulls and a 100 or so black-headed gulls. There were no obvious Med gulls in the bathing party. After about 15 minutes, the Iceland gull moved off, flying over Carew Castle in an approximate SW or perhaps W direction.

Over near the French Mill, a common sandpiper was really the only other note-worthy bird at this end of the Carew estuary.

Numbers of ducks still seemed quite low, with less than 100 wigeon and not many more teal in the Carew/Cresswell complex. A few greenshanks were at expected roost locations plus c.100 lapwings along the shore.

A spotted redshank was a nice addition over at Coedcanlas on the Daugleddau (they seem to have become more scarce here in recent years) and there were several hundred very noisy Canada geese over at Llangwm.
