Porthgain to Trefin early afternoon and Abercastle later

A coastal walk from Porthgain to Trefin was fairly quiet bird-wise, apart from noting two pairs of ravens disputing territory rights, a small colony of fulmars at an established breeding location and a single lapwing which looked slightly lost as it flew along the cliff-edge and a stubble field margin.

A return route on an inland path provided distant views of a couple of Med gulls, feeding with a small flock of black-headed gulls and starlings in sheep-pasture - a couple of very distant record photo views were only just about possible, and the light was terrible.

Later, at nearby Abercastle, we noted a few hundred black-headed gulls heading to roost offshore. At least one Med gull was heading out to roost with them - perhaps one of the Porthgain birds? Seven distant wigeon were also also resting on the sea off Abercastle at dusk.
